Web08. avg 2024. · Background: "Lichenoid esophagitis" is a descriptive term for a lichenoid pattern of inflammation in the esophagus for which a precise histologic diagnosis cannot be established. The differential diagnosis includes lichen planus, a drug-related reaction, and viral infection. Lichenoid esophagitis causing death has not been reported previously. WebWe conclude that mild mucosal lymphocytosis (ie, ≥20 lymphocytes/HPF) alone is a frequent and nonspecific finding; criteria for lymphocyte-predominant esophagitis should include evidence of mucosal injury and allow for more than the occasional neutrophil.
